Kingsbridge Go for Gold and Win Best Small Town in Britain
This year the community of Kingsbridge are celebrating their best ever Britain in Bloom Award win and the 800th anniversary of its royal market charter.
Having won GOLD and BEST SMALL TOWN in Britain in Bloom 2018 this year Kingsbridge in Bloom are competing in the prestigious Champion of Champions category. They are one of only five finalists that have been hand-picked by the judges based on their exceptional past performance. It’s an exciting year for Kingsbridge as they will also be celebrating their 800thanniversary.
With its bustling high street, beautiful community areas and riverside views it is no wonder that Kingsbridge has been recognised as one of the best places to visit in Britain. The Kingsbridge in Bloom team’s enthusiasm and hard work over the last 11 years has transformed the town and their plans for 2019 will ensure Kingsbridge is at its very best for the summer.
To mark the occasion the community will create a large willow arch to honour local wildlife as well as a vast array of spectacular floral displays throughout the town. Visitors will also be delighted by metal sculptures of bees and butterflies, pick your own fruit and veg, a wildlife trail and hundreds of knitted bees as well as wildlife boxes made by the local community.
Graham Price, Chairman of Kingsbridge in Bloom says ‘We are really excited to be competing in the Champion of Champions category this year. We’ll be building on the success of previous years with new ideas to deliver the wow factor and to help with climate change, pollination and waste reduction.
The beautiful displays and community areas created by Kingsbridge in Bloom would not be possible without all those that volunteer. We’d like to say a big thank you to all the businesses and individuals that help make Kingsbridge a more beautiful place to live and visit”.
Last year Kingsbridge in Bloom planted over 14,000 plants and was supported by over 30 volunteers and 40 businesses. This year they hope to get even more people involved to compete in the Champion of Champions category and celebrate 800 years of the town. The RHS Britain in Bloom national judges will visit Kingsbridge during judging fortnight which starts on 29th July and the winners will be announced in October.
Here’s what you can expect to see when:
February and March– preparation of planting areas and plants.
