Composting Guidelines updated 22-06-17
In the South Hams, we are fortunate to have very good recycling facilities, including kerbside collection of green- and food-waste, but if space allows, it is a good idea to run your own compost bin or heap to recycle plants, clippings and vegetable kitchen waste....................(Remember - cooked food attracts vermin!)
Tips for successful composting of garden waste:
DO NOT ADD!
Roots, corms or seeds from invasive plants, or perennial weeds such as:
Evergreen leaves
Stones

Tips for successful composting of garden waste:
- Keep lengths short - just big enough to fit in a bucket
- Add spent compost
- Turn it
- Cover it
- Add grass cuttings + straw in spring and summer
- Add manure in Autumn
